NWLC Celebrates Confirmation of Catherine Lhamon to the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights
The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):
“Today we celebrate Catherine Lhamon’s confirmation to the Department of Education to lead its Office for Civil Rights. Her extensive expertise and experience, including her prior leadership in this office and her work addressing racial, disability, and gender justice, make us confident she will protect students, and work to undo the damaging policies created by Betsy DeVos and the Trump administration. Her leadership comes at a critical moment when stark educational inequities have been exposed by the pandemic. We look forward to working with Assistant Secretary Lhamon and the Department on core issues including sexual harassment, racially discriminatory discipline, and protecting the rights of LGBTQ students to ensure all students can learn, and thrive.”
