NWLC Applauds Nationwide Injunction Halting Trump Administration’s Illegal Attempt to Deny Immigrant Children Access to Head Start

Washington, DC – A federal judge today issued a temporary nationwide injunction stopping the Trump administration from implementing or enforcing a policy that would prevent certain immigrant children from enrolling in Head Start programs.
“Early education should be available to every single child in this country, full stop,” said Whitney Pesek, Senior Director of Federal Child Care Policy at the National Women’s Law Center. “We’re relieved that the court halted the Trump administration’s illegal and cruel attempt to ban certain immigrant children from accessing Head Start, a program that has expanded opportunity for countless children nationwide. We will keep working with our partners to ensure that this policy is terminated permanently.”
NWLC is working to highlight the important role that immigrants play in the caregiving economy:
- Four Things You Should Know About How Immigration Impacts Care Work outlines key statistics on immigrant care workers, the challenges they face, and how anti-immigrant policies put our entire care infrastructure at risk.
- Immigrant Women’s Contributions to Our Economy details the sectors with the highest concentration of immigrant women and the indispensable labor that they provide.
