Why I Will March

Organizers from across the gender, immigrant and racial justice movements have called us to join the Women’s March on Washington, and the response has been powerful. Hundreds of thousands of women and their allies will gather Saturday in the nation’s capital for the march. Dozens of sister marches, teach-ins and rallies have sprung up around the country – and indeed the world.

People are traveling on buses and planes, sleeping on couches and floors, or not sleeping much at all. And I can’t wait to join them in this historic march.

I’ve dedicated my career to advancing opportunities for women and girls, so perhaps it is not a surprise that I am marching for women’s rights. But these are not typical times and those who care about women are in the fight of our lives and must prepare for the unprecedented challenges ahead.
