As a second Trump administration approaches, we’re running out of time to confirm as many federal judges as possible to provide a check on his presidential power and curb his stated policy priorities.
The President Just Vetoed A Terrible Bill for Women’s Health
Instead of making normal New Year’s resolutions like sticking to a budget or eating better, some Members of Congress came back to work in 2016 with one thing on their minds: passing a bill that would repeal key pieces of the health care law and defund Planned Parenthood.
Thankfully, President Obama just vetoed this terrible bill, which would have made health insurance unaffordable for more than 15 million people and defunded Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides more than 2.7 million women and men affordable preventive care like birth control, cancer screenings, and testing for sexually transmitted infections.
But we should never have had to get to this point. If the President didn’t have our back, millions of Americans would be forced to go back to the days of being one medical bill away from bankruptcy and going without a critical health care provider in their community.
So, thanks President Obama, for your veto—and to those lawmakers who supported this shameful effort: it’s time to reassess your priorities for the New Year.
