Washington, DC – Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), provided opening remarks today at a press conference attended by parents, children, advocates, and members of Congress, including members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, to highlight the disastrous implications of the Trump administration’s proposed rule on Head Start.

“From the start, what we know, is that this administration has launched attack after attack after attack on child care, making it harder for the women and families to get the care that they need,” Goss Graves said. “And all of these attacks, we know, are part of a broader effort by this administration and their allies to weaken our child care system from within – guided by the extreme Project 2025, which calls for eliminating Head Start.”

NWLC is leading efforts to defeat the Trump administration’s proposed Head Start rule, which would weaken vital safety and program standards that make Head Start the high-quality program it is today. The proposed rule would reduce the number of Head Start teachers, weaken staff and teacher credentials, eliminate health and mental health services, and reduce supports and services for children with disabilities and developmental needs.
