US reacts to Diddy verdict
Jennifer Mondino from Times Up Legal Defense Fund at the National Women’s Law Center in the US says the result is a moment of reckoning for America’s Me Too movement. But she insists it won’t be its end. “I know that it does not mean that the movement is over because I continue to hear from people speaking out and I know that those people are actually empowered, even galvanized, when they read about other people having had similar experiences and being brave enough to stand up, even sometimes stand up against people who are so powerful and well-connected and well-resourced and can hire powerful legal teams to do what happened in this case, which is, you know, persuaded a jury not to convict on all the charges, even when they clearly did believe what Cassie Ventura was telling them about the many years of extreme abuse, power, and control that she suffered.”
