Director of LGBTQI Equality

The Position

The National Women’s Law Center seeks an inaugural Director of LGBTQI Equality to coordinate and drive its legal and policy efforts to protect and advance the rights of LGBTQI+ people at work and in schools and to coordinate and collaborate with members of the Reproductive Rights & Health team, the Child Care & Income Security team, and the Strategy & Policy team on cross-cutting issues related to LGBTQI+ equality.

Priority areas of focus include advocating for LGBTQI+ legal rights through legislative advocacy (including support for passage of the Equality Act), regulatory advocacy, and other efforts to strengthen protections against harassment and other forms of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity; advocating for trans inclusion and defending against anti-trans policies in state legislatures and at the federal level; seeking to limit the use of religion as a license to discriminate against LGBTQI+ people, women, and girls; defending marriage equality and the rights of LGBTQI+ families; and ensuring that sex discrimination protections are interpreted and enforced to protect LGBTQI+ people. All of these efforts are to be shaped and informed by a gender justice and racial justice analysis. The Director of LGBTQI Equality sits on the Education & Workplace Justice program team.

The Organization

The National Women’s Law Center fights for gender justice — in the courts, in public policy, and in our society — working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls.

We use the law in all its forms to change culture and drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes our society and to break down the barriers that harm all of us — especially those who face multiple forms of discrimination, including women and girls of color, LGBTQI+ people, and low-income women and families.

For 50 years, we have been on the leading edge of every major legal and policy victory for women. Find out more at NWLC.org.
