Lex Rummel

State Policy Counsel

Lex Rummel (they/he) is State Policy Counsel on the Strategy and Policy team at the National Women’s Law Center. In that role, Lex works across NWLC’s issue areas through the State Gender Policy Collective to equip state policymakers and advocates with the tools and resources they need to advance gender justice.

Lex first came to NWLC as Counsel for Health Equity and Justice on the Reproductive Rights and Health Team, focusing on state health equity issues including sex education, insurance coverage of fertility care, and gender-affirming care. His portfolio of work in this role also included highlighting how state bans and restrictions on abortion care impact people’s access to other types of health care. Prior to joining NWLC, Lex was an Associate in the Health Care and Life Sciences practice group at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where they advised clients on a range of regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters, including matters related to food and drug law, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, privacy and data security issues, and clinical trials. Lex conducted state and federal law research and worked directly with key stakeholders in the health and life sciences sector. Lex’s work also included analyzing connections between firm practice areas, including the relationship between environmental conditions, such as climate change, on health outcomes.

Lex received his J.D. magna cum laude from Tulane University Law School, where he was awarded Order of the Coif. During law school, Lex was a managing editor of the Tulane Law Review, a law clerk at the Tulane Legal Assistance Program, a Pro Bono Scholar at Akin Gump, a Holley Law Fellow at the National LGBTQ Task Force, and an extern with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services. They earned their B.S. magna cum laude in psychology from Tulane University, where they served as an intern with Tulane University’s Title IX Office.
