Abortion rights, women of color, and LGBTQIA+ people are under attack. Pledge to join us in fighting for gender justice.

The National Women’s Law Center and Women’s Sports Foundation led a letter from over 100 women’s and girls’ rights organizations opposing the hateful and discriminatory bill introduced in the House and Senate, H.R. 28 / S.9, misleadingly called the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act,” which would ban women and girls who are trans and intersex from playing on women and girls’ sports teams, no matter their age, sport, or level of competition.
This letter explains how this national ban does nothing to address actual inequities and harm that women and girl athletes face, but in fact further endangers their safety and opportunity by increasing scrutiny of all women and girls that fall outside outdated and narrow stereotypes of femininity while targeting trans, nonbinary, and intersex students for discrimination. It urges members of Congress to reject this blatant attack on trans, nonbinary, and intersex students and to join the women’s rights and gender justice community in fighting to achieve Title IX’s purpose to ensure equal access to athletic opportunity for all students.
