On August 18th, NWLC submitted a formal comment urging the U.S. Department of Education to remove some proposed changes to the School Based Mental Health program. The School Based Mental Health program provides competitive grants to state and school districts to increase the number of licensed mental health services providers in school districts with demonstrated need. The funding for this program helps to ensure that students with the most need have access to school-based mental health services. The new program requirements proposed by the Trump Administration would make it challenging for funding recipients to provide targeted mental health services to some of the student populations with the most need.
