NWLC Comment on Prohibiting the Use of Salary History in Pay Setting for Federal Employees
The National Women’s Law Center commented in support of the proposed rule from the Office of Personnel Management to prohibit the consideration of salary history to set pay for new civilian employees in the federal government. Such a rule will promote greater pay equity in the federal government by closing gender and racial pay gaps and ensuring that initial pay determinations are based on job-related skills, experience, and education, and not on past discrimination or other factors that are unrelated to the position being filled. NWLC also offered suggestions to OPM to strengthen its proposed rule.
