On October 6, 2020, the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) joined Public Rights Project and several other public interest organizations to submit an amicus brief in the California Court of Appeals in support of the plaintiffs in the case, People of the State of California v. Uber Technologies, Inc. And Lyft Inc. In the amicus brief we highlight how Uber and Lyft’s continued misclassification of its drivers as independent contractors results not only in lower wages and other harmful financial terms, but also in fewer avenues for redress for sexual harassment of drivers, and fewer protections for drivers’ health and safety, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
