Wendy Vitter’s Confirmation to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana is a Blow to the Rule of Law

The following is a statement by Anna Chu, Vice President for Strategy and Policy at the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

With the confirmation of Wendy Vitter, the Trump-Pence Administration adds yet another narrow-minded extremist judge to the federal bench. Vitter has supported unconstitutional abortion laws and spread misinformation and false claims about abortion and birth control. Vitter refuses to say whether Brown v. Board of Education was correctly decided. Today, on the historic anniversary of Brown v. Board and at a time when states are passing unconstitutional bans on abortion, Vitter’s confirmation is an even greater blow. Though her addition to the bench has consequences that could last generations, the National Women’s Law Center stands at the ready to help protect the rule of law. We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that our courts are truly protecting and furthering the rights of people in this country.
