Trump’s Attack on Health Care for Trans Youth is Abhorrent
WASHINGTON, DC (Jan. 28) — The Trump administration announced a sweeping and cruel executive order tonight that seeks to prevent transgender youth under the age of 19 from accessing basic health care, with likely impacts on both young people and adults.
This announcement is the latest executive order aimed at discriminating against transgender people.
In response, Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, issued the following statement:
“It wasn’t enough for this administration to target trans, intersex and nonbinary people’s rights before — now they’ve escalated their attacks on health care access with this egregious executive order. This one is both dangerous and deeply stigmatizing, peddling hateful myths and disinformation about transgender people.
Access to gender-affirming care enables trans youth to live authentically and is often life-saving. The Trump administration’s continued assault on the rights and dignity of trans people is deplorable. We will fight back against these attempts to strip away essential health care and ensure that all young people, including trans youth, can access the care they need to thrive.”
