Senate Fails to Move Forward Bill Restricting Insurance Coverage of Abortion

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the U.S. Senate failed to move forward legislation that intends to eliminate health insurance coverage of abortion, S. 109.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“Senate leadership need to get their priorities in order. Instead of addressing a partial government shutdown that is harming people across the country, they chose to push a vote to take insurance coverage of abortion away from women across the country. Eliminating insurance coverage of abortion places an enormous barrier on those who need access to abortion care, particularly those struggling to make ends meet. These attacks put people’s health and lives at risk and must stop once and for all.”
