NWLC Urges Senate to Oppose Todd Blanche for Attorney General
Washington, D.C. – Today, the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) publicly announced its opposition to Todd Blanche, President Trump’s nominee for Attorney General. The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a two-day confirmation hearing for Blanche on July 15 and 16.
Blanche has served as Acting Attorney General since April 2026, following the firing of former Attorney Pam Bondi. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Blanche worked as Trump’s personal criminal defense lawyer.
“Todd Blanche has proven himself incapable of the integrity and independence the position of Attorney General requires,” said Alison Gill, NWLC’s senior director of nominations and democracy. “It should be deeply troubling to the Senate Judiciary Committee and the American people that Blanche is resisting the full release of the Epstein files, as required by law. Purposefully suppressing the voices of sexual assault survivors, and shielding the powerful men who violated them, is disqualifying.
“Blanche continues to act like Trump’s personal lawyer. He has shown a willingness to misuse his position to carry out even the President’s most unethical ideas. One recent example is Blanche’s involvement in a fraudulent settlement, where he manipulated the court system to create a slush fund designed to compensate Trump loyalists, like January 6 insurrectionists and anti-abortion extremists. An Attorney General is meant to serve the American public, not weaponize the Department of Justice to target the President’s perceived enemies and protect his allies. I urge the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject this unfit nominee, and demand an Attorney General who will enforce the law with fairness and independence.”
On July 6, 2026, NWLC submitted a letter of opposition to the nomination of Todd Blanche as Attorney General. Read the full letter here.
