NWLC Statement on Russell Vought’s Confirmation to Lead Office of Management and Budget
Washington, DC – The Senate tonight voted along party lines to confirm Russell Vought as director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, released the following statement in response:
“Despite a determined effort by Senate Democrats to block his confirmation, the chief architect of the extreme Project 2025 agenda has now been installed to lead one of our nation’s most powerful agencies. Russell Vought—whose policies threaten to drive up costs for families, impose a nationwide abortion ban, and dismantle critical government services—now wields the power to enforce this dangerous agenda, with devastating consequences for women and families.
“Vought poses a direct threat to our democracy. His extreme views on executive power could further entrench the Trump-Vance administration’s authoritarian rule. With such a dangerous figure in a position of immense authority, Congress and the courts must act swiftly to hold him accountable. And NWLC will be at the forefront of efforts to expose every illegal and harmful action he takes – because the public deserves to know.”
The director of OMB works closely with the president on the federal budget, oversees the federal agencies and departments, and helps coordinate and create the administration’s policy priorities. To read more about how Vought could reshape the department, click here.
