NWLC Statement on Confirmation of Pam Bondi for Attorney General
Washington, DC — Following the Senate’s confirmation of Pam Bondi as Attorney General, Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO at the National Women’s Law Center, issued the following statement:
“Pam Bondi’s confirmation is a grave disappointment. Throughout her confirmation process, she failed to demonstrate even a shred of independence from Donald Trump, raising serious concerns about whether she will uphold the Justice Department’s duty to protect civil rights for all Americans. In just his first month in office, Trump has launched a relentless assault on civil rights protections and enforcement, including an unprecedented purge of high-ranking officials at the Justice Department. Yet, instead of standing up to these attacks, Senate Republicans chose to install a Trump loyalist at the helm of the very agency tasked with defending our civil rights — effectively putting a fox in charge of the henhouse.”
During her confirmation process, NWLC sent a letter urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject Bondi’s nomination, pointing to her troubling record on gender justice issues and ethical concerns around her public service.
