NWLC Statement on Anti-Abortion Judge Confirmed to Louisiana District Court

Washington, DC – Today, the Senate voted 49-46 to confirm anti-abortion lawyer William Crain for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) previously sent a letter to lawmakers laying out its strong concerns with Crain’s record.

Alison Gill, director of democracy and nominations at NWLC, released the following statement after his confirmation vote:

“During his legal career in Louisiana, Justice Crain has made clear that he’s willing to ignore the law if it conflicts with his personal ideology—especially when it comes to restricting access to abortion. He is less concerned with equal justice under the law and more concerned with how to force his ideology on the rest of the country, putting the country one step closer to a nationwide abortion ban. These anti-abortion judges pose a serious threat to the health and safety of all Americans, which is why the Law Center will continue to fight back against these partisan nominees.”
