NWLC Responds to Trump Administration’s Plan to Gut Education Department Staff

(Washington, DC – March 11) – The Trump-Vance administration’s decision to slash half of the workers at the Department of Education is part of its plan, laid out in Project 2025, to demolish the Department entirely.

Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), issued the following response after tonight’s action:

“President Trump is following the dangerous and illegal marching order laid out in his Project 2025 playbook to dismantle the Department of Education. Extremists have been trying for decades to eliminate the Department of Education – something that would require an act of Congress. So instead, the Trump administration is attempting to bypass congressional authority by ripping the Department apart, piece by piece — at the expense of students, families, communities, and workers. This continued assault on our democracy is ruining the lives of working families across the country, tanking our economy, and pushing our systems beyond the breaking point – moves that will have ripple effects in schools and on campuses for generations to come.”
