NWLC Responds to Coronavirus Relief Deal

(Washington, D.C.) The following is a statement from Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center:

“That obstructionists in the Senate plunged millions of families into poverty before this deal came together is a shameful statement on the priorities of Mitch McConnell and the Trump administration. While working women of color had their lives torn apart by mass layoffs, school closures, food scarcity, and a nationwide child care crisis, the Senate GOP’s only concern seemed to be protecting corporations that put their workers at risk. While this last-minute compromise will provide much-needed relief to many families facing eviction, health crises, and mounting unpaid bills, it will be far too little, far too late for many more who have already gone months without sufficient support. The next Congress and the Biden administration must act swiftly and decisively to ensure the American people receive the equitable recovery they deserve.”
