NWLC Responds to Biden’s Executive Orders on Gender Justice

“The White House announcements establishing the much-needed Gender Policy Council, as well as launching a review of the Department of Education’s policies regarding sexual harassment in schools, are important advances to both undo the harm of the last administration and set forth a more proactive strategy to achieve a gender just future. Launching the Gender Policy Council on International Women’s Day is a significant demonstration of the Biden-Harris administration’s ongoing commitment to center gender equity across agencies and policymaking, and to ensure that core policy issues ranging from economic security, to reproductive health care, to today’s announcement relating to gender-based violence are a priority.

“Today’s Title IX executive order is also a victory for the many brave student survivors who rose up against the injustice, discrimination, and cruelty of DeVos’ Title IX rule – and the National Women’s Law Center has been proud to fight alongside them. President Biden met their bravery with a commitment to fight for their safety and dignity and initiating this process is a first step to restore the legal protections that survivors deserve. We look forward to working with the administration to ensure that all students who experience sexual harassment receive the supports they need to succeed and thrive.”
