NWLC Reacts to Trump Administration’s Outrageous Budget

(Washington, D.C.)  Today, President Trump released his budget plan for fiscal year 2019 and beyond, which proposes a broad array of cuts that will hurt millions of women and families.

The following is a statement by Anna Chu, NWLC Vice President for Policy and Strategy:

“Less than two months after signing $1.5 trillion in tax giveaways to millionaires, billionaires, and corporations, President Trump makes clear, once again, that women and families will be the ones to take the hit. His budget proposes a litany of harms to them—from gutting the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid to blocking access to reproductive health care to decimating nutrition and housing assistance to doubling down on xenophobic immigration policies, and more.

“Make no mistake: the steep cuts proposed in the president’s budget will expand inequality and deepen poverty. Token additions like an inadequate paid parental leave proposal or illusory investments in infrastructure will not salvage a cruel plan that completely ignores what women and their families want and need. This outrageous plan should be dead on arrival.”
