Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center:
“Today we mourn the passing of former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. She was a remarkable trailblazer who made history as the first woman to serve as a Justice in 1981 and paved the way for many after her. Throughout her nearly 25 years of service on the high court, Justice O’Connor had a profound impact on the rights of women and girls, particularly in areas related to affirmative action and abortion rights. We will always remember her contributions to society, and as we honor her life and legacy, we recognize her historic service on the Court. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
