NWLC Reacts to Senate Rejecting Paid Sick Leave for Rail Workers
The following is a statement from Emily Martin, Vice President for Education and Workplace Justice:
“The Senate’s decision to deny rail workers the basic protection of paid sick days is an outrage. Providing workers with paid sick time is a vital piece of building an economy that works for all people, especially women and families. We saw during the COVID-19 pandemic that paid sick time was critical to saving lives and protecting workers’ health and livelihoods. No one should be forced to go to work when they are sick, and it is unconscionable that the Senate denied rail workers this baseline right to care for themselves and their families. All workers deserve jobs that provide them with dignity and respect.”
