(Washington, D.C.) The following is a statement from Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center:
“We are grateful to the Senate for passing the Respect for Marriage Act (RMA), which protects millions of LGBTQ married couples. From ensuring that federal benefits are available to married couples no matter where they live or who they love, to guaranteeing that same-sex and interracial couples’ marriages from one state will be respected by another, passage of the RMA is important given the risks we may face from an increasingly lawless Supreme Court majority. We urge the Senate to not stop with the RMA, however, and push forward to pass the Equality Act, which would codify civil rights protections in so many consequential areas of our lives.”
