NWLC President and CEO, Fatima Goss Graves, on Nancy Pelosi’s Retirement Announcement
Washington, DC — Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), released a statement applauding the extraordinary career of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, following news of her retirement after the current legislative session.
“To say that Nancy Pelosi shattered the glass ceiling is an understatement. She will go down in history as one of the most effective political leaders our country has ever had, as well as the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House.
“The former Speaker was at the helm during some of our nation’s most consequential legislative achievements. From the Affordable Care Act to Dodd-Frank, and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, her leadership has left a lasting mark on nearly every major policy win that has improved the lives of women and families over the last few decades. The former Speaker also helped lead our country through a global financial crisis and then a once-in-a-century global pandemic, pulling the child care sector from near collapse and always making sure that women and families were never left behind. I am deeply grateful for her years of service and congratulate her on a well-earned retirement.”
