NWLC on Carter’s Passing and Legacy

Following news of the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, the National Women’s Law Center released the following statement:

“Jimmy Carter’s unwavering dedication to justice and equality has improved countless lives. As president, he not only created the U.S Department of Education, he fought segregation in public schools and simplified the process of applying for federal student aid.

His commitment to fairness also extended to the judiciary. Carter appointed more women (including Ruth Bader Ginsburg), Black people and people of color to the federal court system than all previous presidents before him combined.

As an organization that fights for gender justice, the National Women’s Law Center holds the legacy of President Carter in the highest regard and is indebted to his lifetime pursuit for civil rights.”
