NWLC Celebrates Introduction of EACH Act

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act was introduced by Representatives Barbara Lee, Diana DeGette, Ayanna Pressley, Jan Schakowsky, and Senators Tammy Duckworth, Mazie Hirono, and Patty Murray.

The EACH Act would lift federal bans, including the Hyde Amendment, that deny insurance coverage of abortion, and would ensure that individuals who receive care or coverage through the federal government can access the abortion care they need.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“People deserve to get the care they need without barriers – and it’s overdue we enact legislation that proudly affirms this. Anti-abortion politicians have stopped at nothing to unfairly target low-income people and make it impossible for them to get care. But personal reproductive health decisions should never be determined by your income or insurance plan. The EACH Act sets forth a vision for abortion care that is founded in trust and freedom. We urge Congress to pass it.”
