NWLC Celebrates House Approval of Spending Bill Without Harmful Abortion Restrictions

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“Today is monumental. For the first time in over four decades, the House passed a spending bill that eliminated long-standing harmful abortion restrictions. We should not have had to wait this long. The federal spending bill should be permanently rid of the Hyde and Weldon amendments, abortion restrictions that punish people of color and those who can least afford the health care they need. We now look to the Senate to pass federal spending bills that put the health, safety, and real-life needs of people first, without Hyde and Weldon. It’s vital that abortion is within reach for all people.”
