NWLC Celebrates Historic Passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act
(Washington, D.C.) Today, the House of Representatives passed the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA). WHPA would create a federal statutory safeguard against abortion bans and medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion.
The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):
“This historic vote – the first standalone bill protecting abortion access in decades – brings us closer to a world where all of us are able to control our bodies, lives, and futures. We are at a crisis point: anti-abortion politicians and extremists in Texas and across the country are violating our rights and putting our health and lives at risk, in an attempt to halt our progress towards equality. This critical first action against the attacks we’re facing makes clear that Congress will no longer sit by and watch our rights and basic dignity be eroded. Now it’s time for the Senate to urgently pass it into law.”
