NWLC Calls Harmeet Dhillon “Dangerously Unqualified” Following Her Confirmation

Washington, DC (April 3) – The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) released a statement following Harmeet Dhillon’s confirmation to lead the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Civil Rights Division.

“Harmeet Dhillon is dangerously unqualified to lead the Civil Rights Division at the DOJ, in part due to her determination to unravel the very civil rights laws that she is now in charge of enforcing,” said Alison Gill, director of nominations and democracy at NWLC. “As a legal organization dedicated to defending the rights of women and LGBTQ+ people, we are deeply alarmed by her history of opposing nondiscrimination and voting rights laws, particularly those safeguarding trans individuals and the Black community. President Trump and his allies understand that weakening civil rights laws paves the way for their pro-billionaire, anti-family agenda. We cannot allow Dhillon to erode the rights that we have fought so hard to secure.”

NWLC previously urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to oppose Dhillon’s nomination. NWLC also penned a blog post outlining the many reasons why Dhillon is unqualified for the role, which you can read here: Harmeet Dhillon: The Department of Justice Nominee Coming for Our Civil Right
