“Justice Rising: Women United to Stop Kavanaugh” Kicks Off to Highlight Kavanaugh’s Threat to Women’s Rights

The week of action features multiple events and rallies focused on abortion rights, protecting health care, and women’s rights at work.

Washington, DC – The National Women’s Law Center, in partnership with a growing list of organizations including Advocates for Youth, All* Above All, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, Coalition of Labor Union Women, Equal Rights Advocates, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, National Council of Jewish Women,  National Network of Abortion Funds, National Partnership for Women & Families, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Service Employees International Union, TIME’S UP, UltraViolet, The United State of Women, YWCA USA, and more, are excited to officially announce Justice Rising: Women United to Stop Kavanaugh.

Women’s and girls’ most precious rights and freedoms are on the line if Kavanaugh is allowed to drag our highest court even further to the radical right, from our ability to choose if, how, and when to become parents, to whether we’ll have access to the full range of health care, to our safety and dignity at work and more. This will be a week to showcase our outrage as well as our hope for the future we plan to build when we stop Kavanaugh, keeping the pressure on as we head into the big national day of action on Sunday, August 26 spearheaded by our friends at NARAL, MoveOn, and more.

Details on the events and rallies happening on each day are as follows:

  • Monday, August 20: Speak Out to Save Roe
      • We’re bringing our abortion stories to the halls of power. Join us, Advocates for Youth, National Network of Abortion Funds, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and more for a day of abortion storytelling in Washington, DC and online. Please RSVP here for location and final details.
  • Tuesday, August 21: We Really DO Care: #StopKavanaugh to Protect the ACA, People with Pre-Existing Conditions, and People with Disabilities
      • In addition to a #PreExAtStake tweet storm from 2 – 3 pm sponsored by the National Partnership for Women & Families, the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, Black Women’s Roundtable, MomsRising, National Women’s Law Center and others, the National Partnership, National Women’s Law Center, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and Protect Our Care will bring health care stories and concerns to members of the Senate.
  • Wednesday, August 22: Working Women Will #StopKavanaugh
      • Working women are rising up and speaking out against the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Time and again, Kavanaugh has ruled against working people, especially those pursuing employment discrimination claims and trying to join together in a union. Join National Women’s Law Center, in partnership with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, Coalition of Labor Union Women, Equal Rights Advocates, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), TIME’S UP, United State of Women, and YWCA for a rally at 12:30 p.m. in front of the Supreme Court to highlight the dangers Brett Kavanaugh poses to women’s freedom to work and support our families in dignity and safety.
  • Thursday, August 23: Fight for Reproductive Justice – #StopKavanaugh
      • All* Above All, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, URGE: Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity, and other reproductive justice organizations will raise their voices across the country – in DC, in their communities and online – in opposition to Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
    • Also on Thursday, August 23: Women of Faith Speak Out to #StopKavanaugh
      • The National Council for Jewish Women and allied organizations will lead a digital campaign to raise the visibility of women whose faith convictions drive their opposition to Brett Kavanaugh.
  • Friday, August 24: Fighting for Our Future
    • Youth, students, and educators will launch an ongoing civic engagement campaign including letter-writing, teach-ins and more to ensure that our nation’s most forward-thinking generation doesn’t spend a lifetime under a backward-looking Supreme Court.
