Congress Introduces the Child Care for Working Families Act to Provide Families Access to Affordable, High-Quality Early Learning and Care
(Washington, D.C.) Today, the Child Care for Working Families Act was re-introduced in Congress by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA) with Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI). This bill would ensure parents have access to high-quality, affordable child care options, including preschool, and ensure teachers are paid at least a living wage so they can support themselves and their families.
“Child care is a crucial support that helps parents work, gives children a strong start, and grows our economy,” said Helen Blank, Director of Child Care and Early Learning at the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC). “We made progress last year with a historic increase in Federal child care funding that was long overdue, but too many families still struggle to find and afford the high-quality child care they want. This bill is an important step in the right direction”
“Substantial investments in child care will ensure that all families get the help they need, all children have an equal opportunity to succeed, and teachers are paid what they deserve,” added Catherine White, the incoming Director of Child Care and Early Learning at NWLC. “The Child Care for Working Families Act is a key part of making this goal a reality.”
