Mariafernanda (Marifer) Zacarias was the Program Assistant for the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund and Legal Network for Gender Equity. Prior to starting this role in June 2018, Marifer was doing a fellowship with the Office of Strategic Partnerships of Planned Parenthood of American and Planned Parenthood Action Fund. In that role, she assisted with partner events, rallies, conferences, and calls to action, as well as fostered and maintained partner and affiliate relations.
Marifer earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from American University, School of International Service, where she focused her major in Foreign Policy and National Security in Latin America. Marifer has been a longtime advocate for Latinx community and reproductive rights. She previously served as the Field & Campaigns Intern for Voto Latino, Communications and Outreach Intern for the Mexico Institute at the Wilson Center, Assistant to the Vice-Consulate at the Embassy and Consulate of Panama to the U.S., Intern for the Ethics Division HQ for the Department of Homeland Security, and Intern for Congressman Beto O’Rourke (TX-16). She also widened the scope of her understanding of international organizations, such as the European Union and NATO, and foreign policy by working for the Atlantic Treaty Association in Brussels, Belgium.
