Janel George is Director of Federal Reproductive Rights and Health and Senior Counsel and she works to advance federal laws and policies that promote women’s access to comprehensive health care, especially reproductive health care.
Ms. George has served as Legislative Counsel and Legislative Assistant to a senior Senator and junior Member of the House of Representatives. In her roles, she managed health care, education, judiciary, civil rights, women’s rights, and other domestic policy issues, and participated in the crafting and implementation of comprehensive health care reform and other key legislation.
She most recently served as Senior Education Policy Counsel with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), where she managed a broad range of education policy issues.
She began her legal career as a Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellow with Georgetown University Law Center with the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF), handling reproductive justice, immigration reform, and domestic violence prevention issues impacting Asian and Pacific Islander women.
She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School, where she served as a Managing Editor of the Wisconsin Law Review, and Spelman College. She has authored papers on reproductive justice and education issues. She is an adjunct professor with Georgetown University Law Center.
