Social Security is especially important to people of color at all stages of their lives. Social Security provides nearly all of the income for roughly half of African American and Hispanic seniors. The life and disability insurance protections that Social Security provides are especially important to young families of color. Understanding Social Security—and knowing how to make the most of the benefits you’ve earned—is especially important to communities of color.
