Housing impacts health, education, food security, employment, and access to public programs that help families with low incomes meet basic needs. The Fair Housing Act’s affirmatively furthering fair housing mandate is vital to overcoming barriers to fair housing for women and families.
Under the Trump administration, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released a rule that gutted the regulatory framework for HUD recipients to affirmatively further fair housing created in a 2015 Rule under the Obama administration. HUD has proposed an Interim Final Rule to reinstate part of that 2015 Rule. NWLC submitted a comment to HUD supporting the Interim Final Rule, with improvements to better further fair housing for women, people of color, people with disabilities, and other communities protected under the Fair Housing Act.
