On October 29th, NWLC joined an amicus brief led by the Impact Fund on behalf of civil rights groups in the case Johnson v. NPAS Solutions., LLC. The amicus brief asks the 11th Circuit to reject a 2-1 ruling that service awards for class representatives in class actions are categorically unlawful. Amici support the idea that class representatives should be provided an increased financial award when cases settle. The brief demonstrates the critical role that class representatives play in class actions, the arduous work they sometimes undertake, and the financial and reputational risk they bear for the broader public interest.
