Sexual Harassment Allegations Against N.Y. Governor Cuomo Demand an Independent, Thorough, and Transparent Investigation, Says NWLC

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“The multiple allegations of sexual harassment against New York Governor Cuomo demand an independent, nonpartisan, thorough, and transparent investigation that examines the specific allegations brought forward, whether they are part of a more systemic pattern of harassment, and if members of his administration enabled abuse. An investigation must probe, for example, whether Cuomo’s chief of state and special counsel failed to fully investigate the claims of a former staffer, Charlotte Bennett, after she reported her harassment experiences to them. And while it is always critical that individuals initiating harassment allegations are protected against retaliation, it’s especially important given the power imbalances here. Retaliation against anyone coming forward with information must be dealt with swiftly and all who speak out must be assured that they will be protected. Brave survivors across the country are leading the charge to change our culture and the institutions that have left them unprotected. They deserve a serious response to serious allegations.”
