NWLC Responds to Likely Ginsburg SCOTUS Replacement

After numerous media reports that Trump has selected his nominee for the Supreme Court, the following statement was provided by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):”

“We’ve known who President Trump was going to nominate – regardless of their name. He has already called for judges who would “automatically” overturn Roe v. Wade, and has made clear his desire to inform the results of the election by filling this seat. Looking at Trump’s shortlist is a crystal ball view of a future that decimates the right to bodily autonomy, rescinds health care for those who need it most, turns back protections for survivors of sexual harassment, and undoes decades of progress for LGBTQ+ communities and people of color. While bleak, it’s unclouded. We know what’s coming, we know what’s on the line, and we are ready to fight.

“What’s most horrifying is Trump’s blatant choice to make a mockery of our democracy and diminish the Court itself. With less than 40 days from the election – when people have already begun early voting – Trump and McConnell are running a charade that defies the historic legacy of Justice Ginsburg. We deserve a justice who will fight for the civil rights of women and girls, and all of us. No matter the nominee – even, yes, if it is a woman – Trump’s record, criteria, and this entire illegitimate process are proof that we will not have a champion for justice and equality.”
