NWLC Reacts to Allegation of Sexual Violence by Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh
(Washington, D.C.) Recent reports have revealed an allegation of sexual violence by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The National Women’s Law Center opposed Brett Kavanaugh’s elevation to the Supreme Court prior to this allegation.
The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):
“We support survivors, including their right to drive when, how and to whom they tell their own stories. It’s a travesty that a woman cannot come forward and name her experience without upending her life. Reports indicate that this woman, recognizing that risk, sought confidentiality and chose not to come forward. Unfortunately, her wishes were not respected. We strongly condemn this violation of her privacy and autonomy. What happens in the coming days will determine whether survivors see a path for sharing their stories and speaking truth to power.”
