NWLC Files Complaint Against D.C. Board of Chiropractic on behalf of Sexually Harassed Patient

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) filed a complaint with the D.C. Board of Chiropractic on behalf of a young woman who was repeatedly sexually harassed by her chiropractor. Over the course of several treatments, the chiropractor commented on the young woman’s sexual knowledge, sexual experience, and appearance and made frequent requests to see her outside of his office.

“I just felt like I needed to retreat somewhere and try to protect myself in some way,” said the young woman about her visits with this chiropractor.

The complaint urges the D.C. Board of Chiropractic to conduct an immediate investigation and take appropriate disciplinary actions against this chiropractor.

“Medical and professional boards must address all complaints of sexual harassment and assault,” says Fatima Goss Graves, NWLC President and CEO. “This kind of behavior is not only devastating to patients’ health and wellbeing, but also constitutes unlawful sex discrimination in health care. Patients need to be able to trust that they can get the care they need in a nondiscriminatory environment.”
