NWLC Mourns the Loss of Former U.S. Senator Birch Bayh

The National Women’s Law Center mourns the loss of former U.S. Senator Birch Bayh, the principal Senate sponsor of the landmark civil rights law Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination in education. Known as “the father of Title IX,” Senator Bayh was a bold visionary who fought to break down the barriers to education for women and girls across this country. We had the privilege of working with Senator Bayh through the years to protect and enforce Title IX, and were struck by his gentle nature, humility, and unwavering commitment to gender equality. We owe him a deep debt of gratitude and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family. We will honor his legacy by continuing the fight to fulfill the promise of Title IX.
