Betsy DeVos’ Title IX approach fails to trust women who report sexual assault

Jackson’s dismissal of the overwhelming majority of sexual assault reports not only reveals that she is unfit to head the Office for Civil Rights, it also confirms the persistence of what Fatima Goss Graves of the National Women’s Law Center calls the “rape myth” that women who come forward “are either lying or have regret.” Without data, Jackson asserted that not just some, but nearly all women who report assault are liars who unfairly target men for revenge. It is morally repugnant that Jackson would propagate this insidious myth as Title IX’s chief enforcer when such bias discourages many women from ever coming forward.
