INTERNSHIPS

NWLC’s internship program provides students the opportunity to work on meaningful projects and to gain valuable hands-on experience. Additional benefits of participating in the NWLC internship program include:

  • Substantive project work for students interested in women’s rights and gender justice;
  • Networking opportunities for students both internally and externally through brown bag meetings and other forums;
  • Creating a pipeline for fellowship and other employment opportunities

NWLC offers fall and spring academic credit internship program and a paid summer internship program.

Semester-Long Academic Credit Internships:

NWLC’s Academic Credit internship program is a semester program designed for students who are receiving academic credits from an accredited college or university.  Students participating in the program may or may not receive third-party remuneration for their participation an internship program.

Although NWLC does not pay interns who come to NWLC at any time during the academic year for the purpose of receiving academic credit, NWLC will work with the intern’s college or university to fulfill the Center’s supervision and educational obligations associated with the intern’s receiving academic credit for their work at the Center.

NWLC offers stipends in the amount of $100.00 per month (if approved by the intern’s school), not to exceed $600 for the period of the internship to defray the cost of food and transportation to interns who are receiving college/university credit.

Summer Paid Internship Program:

NWLC offers a limited number of paid summer internship positions with a commitment to pay up to $6,375 for the duration of the internship program (based on D.C. minimum wage for 37.5 hours for 10 weeks).  This is a 10-week program that typically runs between the months of June and August.   NWLC welcomes the opportunity to partner with interns who are receiving partial or full funding from a third party. If funding from the third party is less than what NWLC has committed to paying summer interns, NWLC will make up the difference in pay.

Students who receive academic credit for their internship are not eligible for the paid summer program.
