It’s not easy to save for retirement when you’re trying to stay afloat in today’s economy. But if you ever want to retire with some level of security, you need to start planning now.

For women, planning for retirement is even more important: women have lower average lifetime earnings, a longer average lifespan than men, and about one in five elderly single women is poor.

Faced with this reality, we want you to have the critical tools necessary to prepare for your own secure future. In order to help make retirement planning easier, the National Women’s Law Center is hosting a two-part series of free webinars.

The first webinar, Planning for the Future: What Women Need to Know About Social Security takes place on Wednesday, September 8, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. This webinar will provide information about Social Security benefits (including pre-retirement benefits), and about how you/your spouse’s decisions about claiming these benefits affect your retirement income. Featured speakers will include:

Maria Freese, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
Joan Entmacher, National Women’s Law Center

The second webinar, Planning for the Future: What Women Need to Know About Pensions and Savings, will take place on Thursday, September 16, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. This webinar will cover strategies to save for retirement, “catching up” on retirement savings, and options for managing savings or pensions. Featured speakers will include:

Amy Matsui, National Women’s Law Center
Rebecca Davis, Pension Rights Center
Kathy Stokes Murray, Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER)

Whether you’re starting your first job or thinking about leaving the workforce after several decades, these webinars will help you plan for your future. And (in the spirit of helping you save) these informative webinars are free. Register today and mark your calendars — your future self will thank you!
