NWLC Statement on President Biden’s FY25 Budget Proposal
WASHINGTON – President Joseph Biden released his proposed budget for FY25 today, which prioritizes funding that would increase economic security, expand opportunity, and reduce inequality for women of color, LGBTQI+ people, and women and families with low incomes.
Maribel Ramos, Director of Government Relations at the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), released the following statement in response:
“While Republicans fight to protect tax breaks for their billionaire friends, President Biden is working to ensure that the ultrarich and mega-corporations pay their fair share. The President’s budget increases taxes on the wealthiest individuals and giant corporations, which will help generate substantial new revenues that can be invested in priorities such as child care, aging and disability care, nutrition programs, housing, and comprehensive paid family and medical leave.
“We’re also pleased that his proposed budget restores the full Child Tax Credit enacted in the American Rescue Plan, strengthens a tax credit targeted toward low-paid workers, continues to leave out the harmful Hyde Amendment, and provides important investments in housing for renters and first-time homebuyers.
“That said, we are disappointed that the budget includes an amendment that allows health care providers to deny patients abortion care based on their personal beliefs, as well as inadequate funding for Title X, which is critical to providing affordable birth control for those who need it.
“Overall, this budget includes many of the priorities that we need to advance gender justice, invest in families, and create an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top.”
