What’s at Stake Today

The health care law is so important for women. It provides coverage for birth control, well-woman visits, and breastfeeding supplies. It means being a woman is no longer a preexisting condition. And it stopped insurance companies from charging women more than men. But some politicians keep launching politically motivated attacks against the law. And some insurance companies seem to think the law doesn’t apply to them.

What Is NWLC Doing?

We fight back against attempts to repeal Obamacare, whether that means filing briefs in the Supreme Court or lobbying Congress to vote down anti-health care law bills. So far we’ve helped keep the law going strong through two major court battles, and we intend to keep defending the law for as long as politicians continue to attack it.

We also make sure insurance companies follow the law. Our team pores over documents from insurance companies to determine if any are violating the law when it comes to women’s health coverage, including birth control, maternity care, breastfeeding support, and other essential services. We work with state and federal regulators to make sure women are getting the coverage they are guaranteed by law.

And we ensure women know the benefits of the law and how to get them, from no-cost breast pumps and lactation counseling to well-woman visits.
