Workplace Fairness & Flexibility

Women still earn, on average, only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men. Sexual harassment, sexual stereotyping that bars the door to hiring and advancement opportunities, and other blatant and subtle forms of discrimination are still too common. That is why the Center is working to ensure the full enforcement of the laws against sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination on the job, to strengthen the laws mandating pay equity, and to preserve and defend affirmative action programs that open opportunities for qualified women to show what they can do.

Fair Pay Campaign

The Fair Pay Campaign

In January 2009, President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law. This victory is a major step forward in giving women the ability to challenge unequal pay. While the bill’s passage was a critical step forward, the battle for pay equity is not over. Women still make only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men — and for women of color, the numbers are even worse. Our next step is to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to improve the law, close the loopholes, and encourage employers to review their policies.
